What is awake? Easy. Not sleeping, not dreaming. What is awake beyond that? My teacher Swamiji tells us to complete, to radiate enlightenment, to wake up! The reality you perceive around you is just a play, a drama. You are more than the bio-mechanism of your body and mind. You are more than you think. You are energy, possibility! I have been on a journey of waking up for a long time. The recognition of the waking up, the signposts started slowly in fits and starts, and gained momentum as I started to recognize it. Then I started paying attention, listening, and taking action. What is awake? Easy. Not sleeping, not dreaming. What is awake beyond that? I have been on a journey of waking up for a long time. The recognition of the waking up, the signposts started slowly in fits and starts, and gained momentum as I started to recognize it. Then I started paying attention, listening, and taking action. If you are single, it seems you can take action in a more carefree way. In a family you need the support of the other members. I have immense gratitude for my husband and girls who supported me as the signposts on my path, the “awakenings”, seemed to veer left, then right and maybe even circular, and me always wanting to take action and nudging us towards change which was not always comfortable. The signposts are the big and little awakenings along the way. The signposts are as if something had been in the background in black and white, and then moved to the forefront in full color. The signposts are accompanied by intense emotion but no logical thoughts. I always feel intensely alive and awake during these times, or aware that I had not been fully alive. I mentioned the signpost, the Shiva Linga, when I saw it for the first time in the last blog. There have been so many others. Sometimes they truly catch you by surprise. I was standing in front the the Winds Cafe in Yellow Springs many years ago when a friend and I saw a car with a license plate that said “chakra” He said, “what does that mean?” I saw and heard myself answer, “A wheel, it’s a word from India”. This was long ago, when I was very young, and I did not know a thing about India. But more important is the state that signpost pushed me to. It really is a waking up. He looked at me funny–probably because I felt funny, and said, “How did you know that?” I just shrugged my shoulders? I was mystified. There was no memory inside me of ever knowing or seeing that word. Maybe i had heard it unconsciously? Maybe, but the point is, THIS TIME is caused an awakening. Whenever this happens, my listening to myself and the world opens and the next step or a new path is revealed. What happens when you don’t feel awake? When the world is grey and flat? Become empty, clear out the clutter, allow space for yourself. Go for the sign posts, take one small step in the direction of your passion, it will take you home. Comments are closed.
